INSULATION SELECTION DETERMINES THE DEGREE OF PERFORMANCE

Somerset West has been fortunate enough to gain one of the most unique country estates within Southern Africa. The latest addition to the estate is the new Lifestyle Mall, which will open to the public close to the end of 2019.

Checkers was fortunate enough to be furnished with the best performing insulation per 25mm. Lambdaboard , which is a polyisocynurate (PIR) insulation board made on a continuous laminator, is recognised as the preferred insulation method around the world. It is also considered as one of the only products on the market that can offer long-term thermal resistance (LTTR), a phenomenon that designers are slowly coming to grips with.

The architects involved were Steyn Le Roux Truter. They were provided with a very stringent brief in order to create and energy-efficient building and were paramount in creating an insulated building exuding contextual, yet practical necessities such as insulated ceilings.

The insulated ceiling boards unfortunately did not offer the colour that was required at the time; therefore, they were painted with the relevant colour specified by the professionals and owners alike. As such Rigifoam and Lambdaboard have been tasked with finding a solution to the requirements for the tenants in terms of the aesthetic appeal.

This technology will be available to all in due course as Rigifoam/Lambdaboard directors have just returned from Germany and have been able to find a black facing to curb the necessity to pain the boards.

Cladco installed the roughly 3 500m2 of 50mm Lambdaboard over purlin, as well as cladding to the property. Johan van der Wath from Cladco mentioned that Lambdaboard is a very efficient insulation material that offers him and his staff ease of installation.

Another key factor was the product’s green credentials, and Lambdaboard ticks all the boxes and complies with the Kyoto Protocol – zero ozon-depleting potential (ODP) and no global warming potential (GWP). It is safe to say Lambdaboard is truly a sustainable insulation solution that assisted in a successful shop fit-out.
